Eeva: More than just time lapse

We are proud to announce that we have the first two Eeva pregnancies in Canada.  What’s even more exciting is the fact that the first two people who used Eeva are now more than 11 weeks pregnant from their first IVF cycle.

What is Eeva and how is it different from other time-lapse imaging procedures for embryos?

The difference is actually apples and oranges….

Eeva is so much more than time-lapse technology.  I can honestly say that the science behind Eeva is very sound.

Eeva is based on a Stanford patent. The Stanford research group behind the technology includes a world renowned stem cell scientist specializing in time-lapse imaging of stem cells.

The group published the first and landmark paper regarding embryo cell division and time-lapse imaging.  They then delved deeper to learn more about normal embryo cell division through genomics and time lapse. This led to the creation and testing of an intelligent computerized algorithm based on the modelling of thousands of embryos to interpret which embryo in the group has the highest developmental potential according to its cell division pattern.

As a former Canadian Institutes for Health Research scientist with a new investigator award for women’s health and assisted reproductive technology, I am proud that we can offer such strong science to our patients. Eeva adds one more objective, non-invasive test to embryo screening that will hopefully allow us to inch closer to our goals.

But as a physician who cares for people suffering from infertility, anything that can give our patients an edge to get closer to their dreams is well worth it.
