Statistics

Our current pregnancy rates from January 1, 2011 to May 30, 2011:

Why should statistics matter?

… because you go to a fertility clinic to get pregnant and have a child. We are the largest IVF program in BC and one of the largest in Canada. Our success rates have been among the best in the country for 15 consecutive years. We do not take these successes for granted! They are the result of years of experience and constant fine-tuning of our stimulation protocols, our laboratory culture conditions and our embryo transfer guidelines.

With continued refinements in medication protocols, cycle monitoring, and our laboratory environment and techniques we hope to continue to improve our pregnancy rates.

Comparing results

All fertility clinics post their statistics to the public and to a federal monitoring body (CARTR). What you should note when comparing clinics is how many embryos are transferred back into the woman. High pregnancy rates with fewer embryos replaced is a good sign. Some clinics transfer too many embryos into a woman to increase their pregnancy rates – we’ve all heard about octopulets! This practice puts the woman at risk of having a multiple birth which can lead to complicated pregnancies, unhealthy children and family hardship. At Genesis we try to transfer the fewest embryos but still give you the best chance of achieving a healthy pregnancy.

The most important factors determining the success of a cycle are the woman’s age and the number and quality of the embryos we replace. Those factors will vary from one couple to another and from one cycle to the next. Your individual circumstances will be unique. One of our physicians will be pleased to discuss your individual history with you and provide advice that is tailored for you.

Single Embryo Transfer

We are now proud to be perfecting the use of elective single embryo transfer (eSET). This procedure is becoming the gold standard for embryo transfer among eligible women and it is providing outstanding results.

Using eSET we’re able select a single perfect embryo and transfer it into a healthy young woman — providing excellent pregnancy rates, while virtually eliminating the risks to mother and child associated with multiple pregnancies.

In 2009 our eSET pregnancy rate for women under age 35 was 67%. As we continue to innovate and perfect laboratory techniques we hope to see this number rise.

Not every couple is a candidate for eSET and the decision to transfer a single embryo versus more than one is made by you and your doctor.
